Leuchtturm 1917 - daily planner for 2026

It is planner season again, people are buying their new planners for 2027, shops are showing their line-up for the next year, Hobonichi has revealed their new planners in a month-long-show in August on their website.

When I browse through videos on YouTube a lot of planners for 2027 show up, but people showing as well their used planners of 2026. And I really like to see these used and stuffed planners, clearly well-loved and holding a (right now nearly) whole year of thoughts and memories.

When I look back on my planners of the last years I was always happy when I was able to archive a whole year of daily journaling into one binder (for example the Filofax Notebooks), or I bought a HON Hobonichi to have a bound book for one whole year (but his small grid...). My dream was always to have an all-in-one-planner, my daily journaling, my trackers, my to-does, my appointments. But well, this all-in-one does not work out for me. I switch too often through the sizes, I try out paper, I`m using bound books, ring covers, disc covers or wire-bound books.

But, one thing I always wanted to have for the whole year in one book or cover: my daily journaling.

Even changing sizes, going from A5 to B5 back to HBxWA5 or even B6, was not too bad because in the end of the year I took apart any bound books or repunched any inserts and archived them together into one cover. In the last two years I have used a Muji binder in B5. Perfect for all sizes because they all fit into this big size. My thinking was to use it until it is full, then use a new cover and in the end have a whole row of these binders in my book shelf with consecutive months, spanning several years.

Not too bad, but, you know, my dream, one book for one year....

Now, with the new planner year coming up, I was browsing my favorite webpage with my favorite notebooks, the Leuchtturm 1917 website, looking around what`s new for 2027. I saw that they are now offering a quarterly daily planner, where you have 4 thin notebooks, one per quarter, with daily pages. In the end you can put them together in one box and have one year together. Very neat! But they only offer it in their small Pocket size (nearly A6) and this is too small for me. These daily planners in A5 and I would have bought it right away. Maybe they will offer that for 2028, that would be nice.

And then I thought, well, maybe they have something with daily pages and I found their daily planner in A5!

Oh, I thought, this is nice! One page per day, lovely Leuchtturm 80gsm paper, one book for the whole year, hardcover, in German.

Then I saw that they are offered with a 5mm dot-grid layout and this stopped me a little because I normally like a grid layout. But then I thought, why do I use a grid layout? Because of my trackers, much easier to draw any layouts and still able to see the lines. But this will be a daily journaling book, just writing, no trackers, and just for writing I`m ok with dot-grid paper. And, another plus-point, it is a 5mm layout, not these small 3.8 mm ones.

Then I thought, oh, but this will be a thick book, 464 pages, this is a chunky one. And as I have already described in another blog post, writing in thick notebooks is not always nice because your hand is hovering in the air the more you get down to the bottom of a page. This is why I took apart my Leuchtturm notebooks and made thin wire-bound books, much easier to write in.

What a dilemma!

Wanting to have one book for one year but not wanting to have a thick notebook. But well, you can`t have the first without the second, said and done, I have ordered one for 2026, and thought, you can try it and if it is working well you can order a new one for 2027. And if it is not working you can still take it apart and make a wire-bound book.

 

And, what can I say: this is so lovely!!

I`m now using it since the beginning of August, over a month, I have already copied my dailies from June + July into this planner, thinking about doing the rest of the year as well and I`m really happy about it. It`s working and working very well.

While using it I discovered that there is an extra note page after each week. They have not described that one their website and I was unaware of it. But in the end it makes sense because a year has only 365 days but this book has 464 pages and only a few monthlies and info pages at the beginning.

Any week starts always with Monday on a left-hand page, then the seven weekdays and the 8th page is a page for notes. So always Monday to Sunday and then one extra page. And I love it! You can either use it for additional daily entries if one page for a day is not enough or you can use it for pictures or any post cards or stickers or doodling or whatever. I have now added small pictures, printed with my Canon Selphy printer, and have a keepsake of certain days of a week. Very often there is no room anymore on a daily page, and this extra page gives me the option to add such small keepsakes.

And yes, it is a very thick book but it is ok to write in. My daily journaling is not always filling up a page, sometimes only half a page. The few times I`m really writing at the bottom of a page I just have to live with a bit of akward hand holding but this does not happen every day and I`m ok with it.

I will use it now through September and I can already see me buying the new one for 2027 because this is actually the set-up that I was dreaming about. And with my favorite Leuchtturm paper!
